Play Alternative Tag Radio – Last.fm

I’ve written about the stranglehold the RIAA has over our listening of music. I embedded a radio station tuner in this blog. I will admit my mistake, the RIAA are a great evil but the tuner I embedded was only half-ass at best. I use a plugin for Firefox for awhile but recently learned about Last.fm. I’v put FoxyTunes in my web browser of choice (Firefox) and will go out on a limb that using Last.Fm with it makes browsing the web a joy. I’ve embedded another radio tuner to give a chance to listen for yourselves. This is my favorite until the next big idea comes.

Kill the RIAA!

I may have found a way around the RIAA. I made a radio station for me to listen to and I thought of sharing with all of you. I found the when I installed Apollo from Adobe which I trust not to screw up my computer, time will tell. I’m sure it’s only superficial but the RIAA is not getting more money from me, ever!

To: Internet Radio Listeners

To my Congressional representatives, and to Congress as a whole,

As a fan of Internet radio, I was alarmed to learn that music royalty rates were recently determined by the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) which, if enacted, would certainly silence most or all of my favorite online listening services. For most webcasters, this royalty rate represents more than 100% of their total revenues!

The shuttering of the webcasting industry would be a loss for not only independent business owners, but also for musical artists, for copyright owners, and for listeners like me who enjoy the wide variety of choices available via Internet radio.

I respectfully request that Congress look into this matter and initiate action to prevent it. As the CRB rate decision is retroactive to January 1, 2006, please understand that time is of the essence — as the immediate impact of this decision could silence many free Internet radio stations forever.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

Broadcast Law Blog: Copyright Royalty Board Releases Decision - Rates are Going Up Significantly

Unbeknownst to me in my previous post added to this blog was the RI (=’&'(% AA being the greedy bastards they are. This article spells out there greed and how that might affect each and every music lover in the U.S.. I live in Japan but most of the entertainment I view and listen to come from the U.S.. Take a look at this article and if you agree with them buy some crap or otherwise BOYCOTT them and take control.

to summarize:

The Copyright Royalty Board decision on the royalties for to be paid by Internet Radio stations for streaming music during the years 2006-2010 was released to the participants in the proceeding today.

…In a 100 page decision, the Board essentially adopted the royalty rate advanced by SoundExchange (the collective that receives the royalties and distributes the money ato copyright holders and performers) in the litigation.

…For noncommercial webcasters, the fee will be $500 per channel, for up to 159,140 Aggregate Tuning Hours (one listener listening for an hour) per month.

…As this decision may well significantly impact webcasters, large and small, there is no doubt that more will be heard on this decision in coming months.

Radio Paradise - eclectic online rock radio

Radio Paradise - eclectic online rock radio

This post is off my regular ranting path, no one is listening about global warming, they insist on driving their SUV’s. It’s not about that, this post is about my favorite Internet radio station, Radio Paradise. They are definitely not controlled by the big money that corrupts art. But they do have to pay the bills and feed themselves. They are purely listener supported, previously I gave support by my present medical status does not make work feasible. Thanks to my beautiful wife, Mako, I can listen to great music and give them my support in any way I can.
