Gaiam Community - Why switch to compact fluorescent bulbs? Watch this.
If you’ve been reading this blog you may have noticed that I’m an environmentalist concerned with what come out of Global Warming. Perhaps more importantly I’m a cheapsake. It’s always to get those principles to come together. The link I posted is to a web page with a video that shows the cost of an incandescent bulb vs a fluorescent bulb. Everyone should pay the extra money to get the energy saving bulb. It’s better in the long run for all.
I just an epifinay (mabe) on the global power requirements that the computing industry is consuming. The idea came to me after reading the following article; U.S. servers slurp more power than Mississippi | CNET News.com. It seems to me that much of the power goes to the infrastructure (mostly air conditioners with the new CPUs coming to market). It seems to me that air conditioners are not really needed if we can find a way to keep CPUs from melting. My idea is to put channels in the CPUs while manufacturing them to allow a viscous fluid (such as water or an oil) to flow into the CPU to draw heat away and running that warmed water/oil to drain into a storage container with room temperature water/oil (cool). The viscous fluid is pulled at the bottom of the tank and deposited at the top. It should keep the CPU cool without the need of A/C. One thing I learned during my engineering schooling, a profound lesson, is KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid. It’s a simple idea and one that won’t get into production ’cause the designer didn’t think of it first.
Wired News: Bush Ripped on Global Warming This report the article talks about dates back to 2000, when bush lost the vote but won the election (wake up people, the electoral college doesn’t work any more). The U.S. has an oil man as president and most of the evidence points to oil as a primary cause of global warming. bush wants to protect his home boys in the oil industry but he should be protecting his boss, the American people. I asked for it before and I’ll ask again, impeach bush. The Democrats are not out of the woods on this, how many programs have they advocated for the constituents that are energy wasters? How many Democrats or Republicans are driving alternative fuel cars or hybrids? I don’t know the numbers but before any next vote maybe you should? I’ve gotten myself worked up on this, I no longer live in the U.S. (quest for clean air) but my environment here in Japan is at risk for the wastes that happen worldwide. The U.S. is not the only place to blame but since the Kyoto Protocol Japan is the greenest place on the planet but lately I’ve been reading that the EU wants out so they compete against the U.S. which is unencumbered by green restrictions. It all comes back to the U.S.
Once a dream fuel, palm oil may be an eco-nightmare | CNET News.com A serious problem i our quest for a clean fuel alternative. This affects Indonesia and the palm oil cultivated into bio-diesel is used mostly in Europe. The problem in grown the palm oil the local ecology is thrown out of wak bu the damage caused by growing the crop on a large commercial scale. I remember reading an article (forget where) about building a tall building and growing in the building. Seems to me a perfect fit, build the structure where is warm/hot, use automation to take care of the plants, harvest and convert into bio-diesel in the same structure. What goes in is compost for fertilizer and what comes is is liquid gold (or energy if you don’t like the analogy). I’m sure Bil Gates has a few billion dollars doing nothing.
I am not a nuclear physicist and I do not play one on TV (I can’t even spell it) but I see the worth in this idea. We have this hunger for energy, we don’t want too be killed by that hunger, why not try something not on the beaten path that cannot be weaponized (I think). Our ideas as a species have something to be desired so we should promote other ideas. I don’t claim to have the “Ideas” but I do recognize a better path. Read the article and talk to someone and they might talk to someone and … Th Better than Uranium TreeHugger
I’m not sure if you can count an idea that’s 100s of years old as genius but in our age of global warming any clever idea that reduces CO counts. This is such an idea that puts an old to modern use to lower the use of CO emission. It’s pricey but may lead to lower transport charges in the long run. This is a German company but they’re soon to have many others following. Photos: A kite to pull a cargo ship | CNET News.com
I thought I would never say this but “My Hat Off to Wal-Mart” on trying to get everyone to save money and conserver resourses. Wal-Mart Puts Some Muscle Behind Power-Sipping Bulbs - New York Times Must of my lightbulbs are low power this just gets me to get all my bulbs on the cheap-sake way.
I’m not the paranoid sort of person, I know they’re out there to get me but I don’t sweat it. This article makes you wonder if there’s any truth to it and if there is some truth in the article, who has the balls to make it happen? Sorry but I don’t have the technical kno-how but I have enough balls to let the world know. People the WORLD needs this so get of your ass and make it happen.
