Energy saving?

I had an idea while I was at Virginia Tech University studying Computer Engineering. I had a assignment to design a build a … whatever. The goal of the project wasn’t to design and build anything in particular but have an idea, design it, and program a computer chip to make it work. It was a very challenging project and fun in a geeky sort of way (that’s me, fun in a geeky sort of way). It occurred to me yesterday that this is the sort of thinking that will fix the world, especially being fun in a geeky sort of way. The idea is to build a device that will help everyone control how much energy they use. My idea is a device that is controlled by Wi-Fi, screws into a light fixture and a light bulb screws into it. Energy use in the U.S. has run out of control because of the low cost of watts there. But no matter the cost is, it still ends up putting crap into the atmosphere that effect everyone in the world. The ideas are free here, make use and do something with them. Yes, I know what you’re saying, what the difference between that and a wall light switch? If you build it you’ll add simple things like timers and motion detectors that are cheap to add and would be invaluable if you’ve little ones running amok and don’t really understand there no monsters under the bed (the monsters are in Washington, D.C.). Make the device, and whatever you come up with, inexpensive and we can solve the woes of the world.

U.S. servers slurp more power than Mississippi | CNET News.com

I just an epifinay (mabe) on the global power requirements that the computing industry is consuming. The idea came to me after reading the following article; U.S. servers slurp more power than Mississippi | CNET News.com. It seems to me that much of the power goes to the infrastructure (mostly air conditioners with the new CPUs coming to market). It seems to me that air conditioners are not really needed if we can find a way to keep CPUs from melting. My idea is to put channels in the CPUs while manufacturing them to allow a viscous fluid (such as water or an oil) to flow into the CPU to draw heat away and running that warmed water/oil to drain into a storage container with room temperature water/oil (cool). The viscous fluid is pulled at the bottom of the tank and deposited at the top. It should keep the CPU cool without the need of A/C. One thing I learned during my engineering schooling, a profound lesson, is KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid. It’s a simple idea and one that won’t get into production ’cause the designer didn’t think of it first.

MS Video Blog

Maybe its time for me to fade off into the sunset but I have somethings to add. I mostly want to give the recently diagnosed a hope for tomorrow if stem-cells are only hype. My video performance is poor but honest, I’ve tried to just “wing it” but you can see the results. I’ll have to be more prepared so I can put something together more pleasing to the senses (I even stink to the nose). I will put my misadventure to remind myself to raise the bar.

I do recommend t any in the same boat, having an autoimmune condition, to watch your diet. It may the easiest way to fight.

BBC NEWS | Middle East | US accuses Iran over Iraq bombs

The U.S. administration has strained there believeability to a point where this sounds like there original WMD claims. I fully support making U.S. troops safe in that environment. As an American citizen I ask that we all should investigate all claims to there fullest before we declare another war. If the claims are true maybe the Iranian started on this path because they how stretched to the breaking point the U.S. is. Investigate the claims to their fullest and investigate those that making the claims and move forward slowly and carefully.

US soldier standing on Abrams tank Sophisticated roadside bombs are capable of piercing Abrams tanks The US military has accused the “highest levels” of Iran’s government of supplying increasingly sophisticated roadside bombs to Iraqi insurgents.

“We assess that these activities are coming from the senior levels of the Iranian government,” one official said.

Yahoo 360° - MS ADVOCATE FOR HEALTH AND FUNDING - Entry for February 08, 2007
As some you may know I live with multiple sclerosis, that used to be so had to say and harder to admit. I say it now with pride, not having this disease but having it and still able to smile, take a look at the About Me link at the top. I live in Japan and thankfully the insurance problems don’t affect me with the social insurance here. Recently I hit a bottom that woke me up, I needed to start doing for myself. I started the MS Video Blog and I decided that weekly is too much so every two weeks I’ll post something new and try to share what I’ve learned, I hope you do the same. I recently found a link (at least Google alerts told me) about a person with/had MS and she wants to share their experience with a new therapy/cure. Japan can be behind the cutting edge because they are typically so safe with medications. If this proves to be safe and effective I’m on a plane to Chicago (or anywhere that can prove they found it). I’ll continue to do my physical rehab but I will stay with any news tremich shares.
To summarize what tremich said in his first post

Hopefully, the new stem cells will build a new, healthy, immune system to replace diseased immune system that caused my MS. The transplant was part of an ongoing study at Northwest Memorial Hospital in Chicago — A study that I feel very fortunate to have been a part of.

Wired News: Petite Food Fighter Pigs Out

In previous post filed 10 minutes ago I ranted about he inability to acknowledge the global warming catastrophe that everyone faces. I got worked up and it was great to come across another article that shone a light on a real threat to all American and Europeans alike. In the world of competitive eating we are losing face. When I first arrived in Japan I saw food shows on the TV. The shows were not about cooking or eating but a competition n the presentation of a meal. Now eatng shows are back in full force. People have a read and watch the videos and watch Takeru “The Tsunami” Kobayashi eat like a Conney Island champ that won’t be beaten and the petite Shone eat like they told her that the cure for the worlds problems can be solved by eating rahmen (I agree on that point, delicious). It put a smile on my face I hope it does the same for you.Wired News: Petite Food Fighter Pigs Out

Wired News: Bush Ripped on Global Warming

Wired News: Bush Ripped on Global Warming This report the article talks about dates back to 2000, when bush lost the vote but won the election (wake up people, the electoral college doesn’t work any more). The U.S. has an oil man as president and most of the evidence points to oil as a primary cause of global warming. bush wants to protect his home boys in the oil industry but he should be protecting his boss, the American people. I asked for it before and I’ll ask again, impeach bush. The Democrats are not out of the woods on this, how many programs have they advocated for the constituents that are energy wasters? How many Democrats or Republicans are driving alternative fuel cars or hybrids? I don’t know the numbers but before any next vote maybe you should? I’ve gotten myself worked up on this, I no longer live in the U.S. (quest for clean air) but my environment here in Japan is at risk for the wastes that happen worldwide. The U.S. is not the only place to blame but since the Kyoto Protocol Japan is the greenest place on the planet but lately I’ve been reading that the EU wants out so they compete against the U.S. which is unencumbered by green restrictions. It all comes back to the U.S.

I’ve got reason to post this except that I thought it is funny.

WIRED Blogs: Autopia

WIRED Blogs: Autopia This article offers a glimmer of hope but does not answer the big question, WHEN can we get our hands on it?

You owe Uncle Sam $800, pay up!

I herd something today that floored me. I was getting an acupuncture session (as I do every other week, it helps me with my MS) and the acupuncturist had the Japanese news which was playing news from the US. They were talking about bush’s plan to get $100 billion for his war. I’ll say that again, $100,000,000,000 that’s in dollars and according to the talking head that comes out to $800 for every citizen in the US. I haven’t figured out whether that just tax paying citizens or everyone. If it’s everyone then a baby born owes the government $800, never-mind the hospital bill. I think the bill should to the voters that put him there and leave the rest of us alone.
